FAQ and limits

Honest limits

The software

Is there a free demo?

Yes, from launch day: the whole software — every workshop, the example world, the Play test — but it does not save your project, open your own files or export. Its data stays apart from the full version.

Do I need Blender?

No. The Geometry workspace is a modeller with Blender's gestures and shortcuts, and Texturing paints in 3D. Blender is there if you prefer it: export the witness as one .glb, sculpt it, bring it back.

Which engines?

Godot 4, Unity 6 and Unreal Engine 5, through the free MarchingBlocks Paint plugins. The open format can be read by any other engine or tool.

Can I sell games made with it?

Yes. The tiles, worlds and everything you make with MarchingBlocks are yours, commercial use included, with no royalty and no obligation to credit us. The example content may be used in your creations, but not resold on its own.

How do updates work?

The website version checks at launch whether a newer version exists (you can turn this off in Project). If one does, the title bar says so; nothing downloads by itself. Your downloads page has the new installer, which replaces the old version and keeps your projects and settings.

Does MarchingBlocks collect data?

No. No telemetry, no account. The update check only reads a public file on this website; like any connection, it shows your IP address to our host. See the privacy policy.

Is AI used?

MarchingBlocks itself generates no content with AI. The app's splash screen and icon were created with the help of an AI image and 3D tool (Tripo) and then edited, and two screenshots show AI-generated trees imported into the Foliage workshop. Everything else — the software, its interface, every world and screenshot — is made and captured in the real software.

How do I report a bug?

Write to contact@spannergames.com, with what you did and what happened. The developer reads every report.
